Introduction:

Understanding IVF:
In Vitro Fertilization, commonly referred to as IVF, is a medical procedure where fertilization occurs outside the body, in a laboratory setting.
This process involves extracting eggs from a woman's ovaries, fertilizing them with sperm in a laboratory dish, and then transferring the resulting embryo(s) back into the woman's uterus.
How Does IVF Work?
1. Ovarian Stimulation: The woman undergoes hormonal therapy to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs instead of the single egg that typically matures each month.
2. Egg Retrieval: Once the eggs are matured, they are retrieved from the woman's ovaries using a minor surgical procedure performed. A thin needle is inserted through the vaginal wall to collect eggs from the ovaries.
3. Fertilization: The retrieved eggs are then combined with sperm from the husband, male partner or a donor in a laboratory dish, where fertilization takes place.
4. Embryo Culture: The fertilized eggs (embryos) are cultured in the laboratory for a few days to allow them to develop and grow.
5. Embryo Transfer: The healthiest embryo(s) are selected and transferred back into the woman's uterus, typically 3 to 5 days after fertilization.
6. Pregnancy Test: Approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to determine if the procedure was successful.
